chest rose slowly, heart raced, head laid softly against
you beckoned first by cradling as your arms embraced
as i withdrew from your ways, you allowed my disgrace
vines withered with the shade, paths can’t just be retraced
thorns infest the ground we once walked, our garden defaced
you’d lower the voices of heaven’s choir to hear
unfit words from a beggar & lips that made a liar
touch them with fire, resurrect the heart you brought here
the burial of its tears, your acceptance of its surrender
i was nothing before you made me, thumb forming my face
but were you a thief as your hand slipped in my side to take
fruit dripped from my lips as you put skins around my waist
banished from coming in eden’s gate, i spurned your embrace
when heartache came, surrender then had a bitter taste
you’d lower the voices of heaven’s choir to hear
unfit words from a beggar & lips that made a liar
touch them with fire, resurrect the heart you brought here
the burial of its tears, your acceptance of its surrender
fractured pieces of the heart you made
an unequal surrender when it’s after the pain
to crown you king, even as thorns take its place
after it’s done, you lean in to replace my heartache
mercy higher than my thoughts, lower than my grave
you’d lower the voices of heaven’s choir to hear
unfit words from a beggar & lips that made a liar
touch them with fire, resurrect the heart you brought here
the burial of its tears, your acceptance of its surrender
damaged clay, tears mixed with dust of my decay
could you reshape your sanctuary from my ribcage
a fractured vase, leaking, leaving your roses to fade
the garden you gave dried to the thorns i arranged
mend what’s broken, revive the seed you once laid
you’d lower the voices of heaven’s choir to hear
unfit words from a beggar & lips that made a liar
touch them with fire, resurrect the heart you brought here
the burial of its tears, your acceptance of its surrender
